In this video, I repot a crab apple bonsai in early Spring, just as the leaf buds start to swell before bud-birst.
I've had this crab apple for a few years - it's very healthy and gives lovely flowers in spring and fruit in summer onwards. It grows very vigorously and needs hard pruning each winter and repotting at the start of spring. Progress on this tree is tracked on flickr here: flic.kr/s/aHsmhVzNAi
Some future year I will chop the branches and start them again but for now I'm leaving that first branch on to grow big this year and help fatten the lower trunk and maybe give me another harvest of tiny apples.
