In this video we will be working on a poster in the style of Swiss graphic design.

Swiss graphic design, often associated with the International Typographic Style or Swiss Style, emerged in Switzerland in the 1950s. It emphasises cleanliness, readability, and precision through the use of grid systems, sans-serif typefaces, and high contrast. The Swiss designers aimed for clarity and direct communication of information, stripping away unnecessary elements.

The subject of the poster will be the Balfron Tower, made in the brutalist style, by the Hungarian architect Erno Goldfinger. Brutalism was an architectural movement which gained prominence in the 1950s and reached its peak in the 1960s and 1970s, also prioritises functionality and eschews unnecessary ornamentation. Brutalist structures are characterised by their use of raw concrete, geometric forms, and a focus on functionality. The term "brutalism" is derived from the French word "béton brut," meaning raw concrete.

Both Swiss graphic design and brutalist architecture embrace a kind of minimalism that seeks to convey a message or serve a purpose in a direct and unambiguous way, so I thought they would be an excellent pairing for this small project.
