Limited Run Games has seen its fair share of criticism in recent years, from long fulfillment times, using CD-Rs for 3DO re-releases, and firing their social media manager simply because of who she followed on her personal accounts, and now it seems like 2 of their latest releases for the original Nintendo Entertainment System could potentially RUIN your system. What's going on, is there anything legit here or is it just over-reaction?

What's going on:
In a nutshell, Limited Run Games doesn't actually produce the games they sell, they have vendors they rely on to create the finished product to their specs. Many times in this situation a vendor will offer to make things "Cheaper, Better!", but more often than not they ARE cheaper but never better. Somewhere in the production of Rugrates Adventures in Gameland and PioPow the vendor was changed to, one they had used before but not the one they intended to use. As a result they have had feedback that the cartridges are causing damage due to being the incorrect voltage chips and not beveling the leading edge of the pins.
I can understand, somewhat, a vendor change but part of this excuse doesn't smell right. You have POs that need to be paid when ordering samples, when a shipment is ready to be sent, and other points in the manufacturing process. How did no one in their accounts payable notice that the payments and invoices were for a different vendor? Who's watching the store?
Having incorrect voltages can cause severe damage to the CPU, PPU, and power supply on an original NES or a clone system. They have stopped selling these incorrect units, but some of them are out there, in the wild, for people to buy, sell, and trade! In the future, some unsuspecting person could buy a copy not knowing that what they bought is something that could cause damage to their equipment. The fact they didn't issue a recall is unacceptable, and all of these incorrect units should be returned and scrapped to prevent future damage.
Long lead times can be bad. Using CD-Rs to burn games is terrible. This is unacceptable in so many ways and raises the question of who is minding the store and is there any QA process going on? I hope that LRG does the right thing and does recall all of these units sold to help prevent someone's system from being damaged.
