All these survival stories are a test and survival. They are all unique, but illuminate the same core values. There are 8.2 Billion humans, all unique, all just trying to survive until the end of a normal life, not one cut short or wasted. This is about 36 minutes.  It would take 36*8.2E9/(365.25*60*24) = 561,259.411362 years to tell a short story of survival for each of the 8.2 Billion humans now.

@scifidude73 Thank you for the post test debrief. I cannot imagine the hazard waiver these species had to sign, 21 dead.

I believe the story would have been more realistic if the cadets wore a mandatory bio monitor where when their life signs reached a critical point they were automatically extracted from the environment and graded as a failure. If less than 30% of the test group survived, I believe the academy would have a great deal of difficulty in attracting cadets.
