I just caught my first black Carpenter queen today (like 3 hours ago). I'm so grateful you had this video up and that I already was a member of the AC family and knew about the ant care playlist. :D Here's hoping my queen can thrive!
5:54 This is also the period I enjoyed the most, watching them grow while small is best in my opinion. These are the pivotal moments, when the colony is big it’s just constant buzz, which is fun to watch as well, but seeing a small team of ants move the brood or feed them, or look after the queen is best. It’s like watching a show with characters you know compared to watching a giant battle scene, both cool, but the characters you know are more fulfilling to watch as you watch their story unfold.
Through the GAN project I was able to get this species just today! She came with 3 workers already. I just wanted to take the time to say thanks for bringing ants and all the information to the public. You have the best if not one of the best ant channels on YouTube. Here's to the start of my colony! Keep up the great work sir!
Hey mike! Have you played empires of the undergrowth? You start as a queen ant, and you keep building your colony! And protect the queen from other bugs! #Antloveforever!
Breaks open log. Finds wasp nest instead and gets stung 5000000 times
I had heard chewing from the wall behind the head of my bed, for about two years. Told my grandpa about it, and he didn't believe me, until swarmers showed up and started flying around. By that point, there were workers showing up everywhere too. The only course of action we could take was to call in an exterminator. I still haven't seen into the wall behind my bed. A large part of me wants to cut open a block from the drywall, and see what all those ants were doing. I was amazed at how loud the sound of their chewing was.
Now I'm going to be honest, if these ants were in my walls... I'd want them all dead but if they were in a terrarium like thing, I'd want to keep them as pets
Literally just caught my first Queen Camponotus this morning. Been watching your channel since the first episode of Pantora. So excited to get started on my own journey! Thanks for the super informative video!
So happy to finally be able to use the info from this video! My Pennsylvania Camponotus ant queen named Victoria had her first 2 eggs today! I’m so excited to start this journey
I think you can read my mind, because you keep uploading the perfect videos when I think about them! Carpenter ants are my favorite, and I just caught a bunch of queens today! I was thinking about keeping them, but realized I dont have the funds right now for a proper formicarium. But watching this video, and knowing how long it takes before they'll need one, it's actually perfect for me! Now I know I have a little time to save up and do more research : )
I never thought I would get into the ant keeping hobby, but I just might do it this spring or summer
I really, really want to have carpenter ants for my own. The moment I live in a place where I could give them the proper housing and care, I am going to try and get my hands on a queen so I can be responsible for raising an entire civilization of these beautiful creatures. Plus, I have a really deep phobia of ants. Have since I was very small. I feel like raising a colony of my own would help get rid of that phobia, since I hate that it's there - ants are such beautiful creatures, and I can really appreciate them and love the way their species works and thrives; the only obstacle is my dumb panic reaction to seeing a lot of them at once. Maybe having a colony in my own home that I can take care of and watch as they grow will get rid of that automatic response.
Found what I believe to be a carpenter queen crawling on my kitchen floor today and was thinking about keeping her. Glad to see you've got a video covering them!
Hey Antscanada, I live in Arkansas, working outside as a gaurd, and the seventeen carpenter ant colonies that i have been watching on the property just started their nuptual flights today! it was extraordinary.
I don't know if you still read the comments on this video but i would suggest a video on lasius exlaining all basic things like how to feed, how to water... for absolute beginners!
Iam a simple man. I see ant tutorials,I click
Hey all late post here but I recently caught my first queen who is a camponotus Ant. She's in one of those Plant picks, set up in a test tube set up. I was worried cause she wasn't moving much but almost being her first week with me there are three to four little white pellets in the bottom of her chamber which she stands over. I feel she s layed eggs! and I'm so excited she s doing well! I hope she does well and taking suggestions for names on her~
I just caught three queens. Two yesterday and one this morning. So hopefully one of these ladies going to be a mom. I’m back here and relearning the information. So thank you
I have 2 black camponotus queens laying eggs like crazy. Started laying just under two weeks after catching May 17th. Its June 4th now and just caught 3 camponotus castaneus last night. First time trying to keep ants.
